Medical Beds Dimensions

Medical beds have different functions and there are different kinds available, ranging from electrical to manual. Medical beds dimensions do not range all that much, unless a bespoke order is required. This would, however, be very expensive. Whether medical beds dimensions include a mattress or not, depends on the model bought. Some models will have a mattress already built into the bed and is fully designed that way. Other models will be bare bed frames ready to take a mattress. Therefore, medical beds dimensions with built in mattresses will be the same surface area as bare framed models still requiring a mattress, as mattresses are a standard size.

Medical Beds Dimensions

The length of the bed

Medical beds dimensions of lengths can range from around 80 to 88 inches. That is absolutely fine for a person of average height. However, as you can imagine if a patient is over 6 feet tall, this can be a real problem, as their comfort will not be assured. There are some longer beds available, however, these would not fit onto a medical ward facility, as there are standardized areas than need to be kept uniform. Side wards may be able to accommodate longer beds, but generally the longer beds, or bespoke sizes, are something that a person would consider installing into his own home if medically required.

The width of the bed

Most medical beds dimensions include a width of around 30 to 38 inches. This can, of course, vary with the type of bed and with the model, but the above mentioned dimension is generally the size provided.

Adjusting the head of the bed

Many medical beds dimensions include an adjustability factor. Being able to adjust the head and the foot of the bed may be very important to a patient's care at times, therefore, it is essential that this can be done quickly and easily. Most beds have a fixed height of adjustability, and this is usually around 31 inches. It can also be lowered to around 17 inches.

Choosing the right medical bed

If you are looking at choosing a medical bed for the home, then you may be surprised at just how expensive they are. However, remember that most come with a lifetime guarantee, exclusive of motor parts. This means, in all probability, the bed will outlive the owner, thanks to its durable frame. Medical beds dimensions may not be that important to you if you are of average height and weight, so there will be many models to choose from.

Get the best deal possible by considering exactly what you need before purchase. There is little point choosing a bed that has many motorized functions if the occupant is fully mobile and just needs a little extra help. The extra functions will bump the price of the bed up and in all probability you will not use them. Clearly, if your patient needs more care and is practically immobile, then you may need to consider a bed that adjusts, not just at the head or foot, but also in the middle too, to allow a change in the full body position.
